De La Espada, luxury furniture manufacturer and partner to a select roster of international designers, approached us to fabricate the solid brass elements of these intricate objects conceived by celebrated international design practice Neri & Hu. The client was looking for a metalworking partner with the ability to match the meticulous detailing already found in their wood and stone work.
The Spectacle
Neri & Hu for De La Espada, London
The project began with a development process, with Weber Industries working with the production team at De La Espada to formulate fabrication methods from their working CAD models. From this we began prototyping and sample production, which involved a constant dialogue in order to refine and perfect every detail in the piece.
With each part being crafted from solid brass, we worked closely with De La Espada and our partners at Hydromar to prepare for waterjet cutting before assembly was completed in our studio. Custom fittings were turned on our lathe, before the elements were carefully welded, brazed or connected by mechanical fixings. The patination and polished surfaces were all finished by hand using specialist processes to ensure a seamless connection between parts.
In the elegant final product, our brass work orbits marble and timber columns created by De La Espada.
