Bench Joiner / Cabinetmaker

We are looking for a skilled, experienced, and time-served bench joiner/cabinetmaker to join our team as a permanent employee in the role of Fabricator (Wood).

Contract type: Full time PAYE, permanent

Salary range: £35,264.00 - £38,976.00 (dependent on experience)

Regular work hours: 8:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday (plus paid overtime as required)

Location: London, SE15 6SB


About the role

Fabricator (Wood) is a varied and dynamic role, with responsibility for the assembly, fabrication and installation of a range of projects: from furniture to architectural features and timber structures. You will work in the studio and on site, ensuring excellent standards of quality and precision while meeting the demands of a fast-paced environment. You will bring experience of cabinetry and joinery, with specialist skills in structural woodwork and fine finishing, and a high level of attention to detail.


Key tasks

  • Work as part of our team in the studio to fabricate projects in a range of materials, using traditional craft and digital fabrication methodologies
  • Work as part of our team to install projects on site (in London and elsewhere in the UK)
  • Take a mindful approach to work: mitigating risk, maximising efficiency and minimising wastage.
  • Take a leading role on production when designated as Project Lead.
  • Work independently to maintain high standards of production output to meet project deadlines
  • Work confidently from fabrication drawings
  • Communicate with team to manage workflow and project updates
  • Bring knowledge of materials and processes relevant to bench joinery and cabinetmaking
  • Bring knowledge of specialist finishes relevant to hard and soft woods, veneers, and other solid surface materials
  • Prepare materials and manage cutting lists
  • Manage consumables and maintenance for equipment in the wood workshop, ensuring you are set up to deliver the best quality finish
  • Work confidently and competently with other machinery, equipment, tools and materials in the studio
  • Ensure you are equipped and prepared for work in the studio or on-site, including maintaining a personal tool kit relevant to your role
  • Ensure your works are undertaken in accordance with the company’s health and safety policy, relevant RAMS, and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area, with responsibility for ensuring your works are undertaken with care and consideration
  • Manage your time effectively to ensure the team works together to meet project deadlines
  • Foster good working relationships within the team, engendering a collaborative and supportive working environment
  • Report to Operations Manager, Technical Manager and Site Supervisor
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times


Key requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience as a bench joiner / cabinetmaker (essential)
  • Experience with furniture making and fine finishing (essential)
  • Experience installing on site in a construction environment (essential)
  • Ability to work from fabrication drawings (essential)
  • Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail (essential)
  • Understanding of material properties and their appropriate fabrication methodologies (essential)
  • Experience with machinery, equipment and tools for general fabrication (essential)
  • Awareness of health and safety regulations and best practice for compliance (essential)
  • Reliable and responsible attitude to work (essential)
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and comprehension skills (essential)
  • Right to work in the UK without restrictions (essential)
  • Current CSCS card, or equivalent qualification (desirable)
  • Other relevant professional training (First Aid, Fire Safety, PASMA, IPAF etc.) (desirable)
