Monica Vinader Engraving Bar

Emulsion Architecture and Monica Vinader, London

We were approached by Monica Vinader and Emulsion Architecture to design and fabricate a bespoke bar for a new boutique in Covent Garden. The brief was to develop a unique cast surface for the bar front and top, incorporating a brass vitrine and storage.

Working from initial design intent drawings, our team modelled the bar in CAD. Responding to client feedback we proposed a number of design developments, including a fully integrated display vitrine with a concealed, lockable drawer.

The complex mould for the curved bar top was modelled in CAD to enable the precise incorporation of all elements in final assembly.

The fabrication process involved extensive sample production for the unique Jesmonite surface. To achieve the desired finish – a painterly marbled texture in a black and metallic-silver gradient – the wet material then had to be hand painted onto the surface of each mould. Our experienced fabrication team mapped the forms on each mould in order to transition into each surrounding cast panel. Threaded fixings were cast into each panel to allow efficient assembly together with the CNC-machined Valchromat carcass.

Custom brass profiles were designed and machined in-house. This precisely mitred construction allowed for glass and integrated LED lighting to be inset into the cast bar top – creating a seamless transition between materials.
